Weekly Feed #138

Feed weekly januar 14, 2022

It’s a crazy crazy world out there, and society is about to open up a little here in Norway. While we wait, here’s a good mixture of current affairs regarding tech, design, and relevant articles to get you through the desolation that is january 2022 as we know it.

Reading list, a three piece web3.0 special:

  • We’ve been discussing the absurdity of even saying web3. Here’s a good little piece on what possibly makes up the next generation of the internet, courtesy of Moxie Marlinspike.
  • The article has already garnered some interesting replies, especially this one.
  • It all leads us back to this legendary article from 2005, by Tim O’Reilly, trying to explain web2.0. It’s interresting how history repeats itself and that many of the same pillars of 3.0 was already envisioned in 2.0.

Design of the week

  • Out of the box, CSS gradients produces a “gray dead zone” in the middle of the transition. Luckily, there are ways to fix that. Josh Comeau to the rescue!
  • It’s no secret that we have an affinity for book design, regardless of our digital daily duties. Here’s a particularly good source of inspiration for your next cellulose project, A book about John Cage’s mushroom obsession. It’s practically impossible to get hold of though.
  • A nifty exercise is button usage by Jeii Hong.
  • But let’s just enjoy something beautiful for no other reason. Here’s Joe Henry Baker.
  • Oo, and Pantone has decided that ttheir purple color Veri Peri is the color of the year, and everyone cheers in unison. Apparently, it’s very presence is quite coragous.

Tech of the week

  • Parcel is parsing everything to Rust, underscoring a big trend at the moment. It’s looking quite good!
  • Schibsted, our very own Google of sorts, is getting into crypto.
  • We’re following this story about the Cryptoland video that can’t seem to stop stealing visual assets and have to take down their video all the time. It’s still hard to say if the whole thing is a hoax or not. It’s basically crypto meets Fyre Festival. Fun times!
